Perfect location, sublime quality and good style sum up these 124 newly built condominiums, uniquely located in the centre of vibrant Aarhus. The city that some call the world’s smallest metropolis. Construction of the Valdemars Have housing project began in 2017. The complex offers attractive, well-appointed apartments in a range of sizes. These provide opportunities for variation, as well as a guarantee of a harmonious, unified overall look, inside and out.
uno form supplied everything for the project’s kitchens, helping to raise the overall quality level for each apartment type even more.
The turnkey contractor – CASA Group from Horsens – saw great potential in the attractive plot and purchased it from Aarhus Municipality, and has since undertaken the unique new development. The name – Valdemars Have – is a good match with the harmonious, green breathing space in the heart of the city. It contains hints of adventure, history and its very special Aarhus roots. The successful and inspiring project was designed by Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, and it appeals to a wide range of quality-conscious home buyers.
CASA Group’s Sales Manager for private housing, Jacob Wollenberg, reports:
“This is beautiful, green, fairy-tale-like oasis. Residents are in the heart of the city’s vibrant urban life, with many cultural experiences within walking distance, but can also easily retreat into peace and quiet in the courtyard between the two buildings. The green central garden invites relaxation, as well as encouraging social interaction with neighbours, friends, family or playmates.
“The two 6-storey parallel buildings cascade down from west to east, with the green courtyard in between. The complex smooths out the dramatically sloping local terrain by scaling down from 6 to 4 storeys towards the lower end,” says Jacob Wollenberg.
“There have been many urban development and building development projects in Denmark in recent years. Our developers keep an eye on trends and what is in demand, and projects that we feel hold potential for the future. We take a closer look at a given area and bring in skilled, creative architects who, as here in Valdemars Have, find a way to design and tell a story, so that you ultimately build something that fits in well with the surroundings. CASA Group has an aim of doing things a little differently and better, and this site in the heart of Aarhus offered great opportunities, with proximity to many exciting places and experiences.
“When you move in here, you’re in an established neighbourhood from day one, unlike many other new urban spaces, where you can expect construction to continue around you for several years to come. Valdemars Have is an owner-occupied housing complex in a unique location in the heart of Aarhus. The attractive site has its own history, and is within walking distance of the pedestrian high street, ARoS, Musikhuset, Godsbanen and Århus Central Station.
“The creative architecture is the work of Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects, one of the most award-winning architect firms in Scandinavia,” notes Jacob Wollenberg. “Valdemars Have connects the elevated part of the surroundings, featuring Aarhus City Hall, Musikhuset and ARoS, with the lower area, including the Godsbane district. It creates a kind of ravine or fairy-tale dell in the urban landscape.
Jacob Wollenberg from CASA Group has this to say about the homes: “Valdemars Have meets varied housing needs – from small two-bedroom apartments for students or young couples, to larger apartments, and ultimately the luxurious penthouses with private roof terraces and excellent views of the area. The apartments offer bright natural lighting and spacious high ceilings (2.7 metres). They feature large balconies, panoramic windows with solid oak frames, and top quality interiors. They have appealing bathrooms, and bright and inviting, hard-wearing and functional uno form kitchens, adding a touch of class to the interior and serving as an important and central space in each home.
This is just as true for single-occupants, as for people sharing an apartment with another, senior couples or young families.
“When we develop and build homes, we aim for high quality in every detail. You spend many hours in the kitchen, in everyday life and when preparing meals for guests, so it’s important that it’s perfect and matches the soul of the home and the architecture,” notes Jacob Wollenberg, who is very satisfied with the Valdemars Have project overall, and with the contribution from the uno form kitchens.
Jacob Wollenberg elaborates on the choice of uno form kitchens for Valdemars Have:
“The kitchens are very much a uno form narrative. We know them as a truly professional and service-minded partner, and are very familiar with their quality products from many other projects. We know what to expect. uno form is the obvious choice for us on many projects, because we know they always deliver solid quality and a streamlined, minimalist design with an elegant lightness – and great functionality and flexibility. It is a recognised, quality brand with the visual style that most people want today, and which we at CASA Group feel is a perfect match for our development projects.
“Kitchen interiors from uno form are like a piece of furniture in their own right, and are out of the ordinary,” adds Jacob Wollenberg.
“Quality and design harmonise perfectly with well-chosen colours, shapes and materials. In condominiums such as these we offer some freedom of choice and personalisation in terms of colours, details and materials, but we generally go for the matt white, handle-free fronts, white laminate worktops, rectangular stainless steel sinks, white appliances and hard-wearing and practical surfaces and materials throughout,” notes Jacob Wollenberg. “The wall units have spots mounted underneath and click-push mechanisms (Avantgarde series), while the base units have milled handles and soft-close. The plinths are white lacquered to match the fronts. There is a built-in oven, induction cooking hob, integrated dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer and integrated cooker hood.
“It’s important to us when choosing a kitchen supplier for a prestige project like this that the quality and design fit our requirements and ideas, that collaboration and service are excellent, and that home buyers are offered flexibility and choice through a well-designed option programme,” concludes Jacob Wollenberg.
The site slopes down 11 metres from Valdemarsgade towards Eckersbergsgade, and is surrounded by a number of exciting cultural landmarks and existing residential blocks. The architects have designed the cascading buildings to elegantly take up the slope of the terrain. There is an underground car park below the green garden between the buildings, where residents can purchase parking spaces. Bicycle parking is also available in the underground car park.
The building facades feature red bricks with brown and black hues. There are alternating sections of patterned brickwork and attractive climbing plants in a mosaic of evergreen and deciduous varieties – with clear ties to Aarhus University and the existing residential blocks surrounding the site.
The roof terraces have pergolas and ceramic tiled floors, and the balcony floors have a white concrete surface.
The apartments have engineered wood flooring in a choice of three oak varieties in the entrance hall, living room, kitchen and bedrooms. There is underfloor heating throughout.
